An Update From Sharon - November 2024

News about the new anti-racism community and more

Hello friends,

Every time I think the month can't get any busier, it somehow does, which is why I'm just back from a 5-day staycation. As I wrote a couple weeks ago, rest is resistance, and I'm no longer resisting rest, no matter how committed I am to anti-racism (and you KNOW I'm committed).

As this edition was coming out, Kemi Badenoch had just been elected leader of the Tory party in the UK. While it is undoubtedly an achievement, I have mixed feelings about what it actually means for people of the global majority, given her very public denial of the roles of racism and colonialism in the enrichment of the UK, and a few other problematic (in my opinion) statements.

Meanwhile, the US election was coming to a head. Since you already know how I feel about the orange one, you know what result I’m hoping for. The world is waiting with bated breath to see whether a significant part of the US electorate is ok with putting an abusive insurrectionist felon in the White House (that he’s on the ticket at all is WILD to those of us looking on from afar.

Off the world stage, let me catch you up on what's been happening in my spaces.

The SHHARE Community

When I wrote to you last month, I was preparing to welcome the first members into the SHHARE community. I did, and so far it is going very well. Excluding the admins (there are two of us), we're at 14 members, with a couple more expected any day now. More importantly, people have been diving in, asking questions, sharing answers and generally contributing to what I envisage as a community-led anti-racism space.
